Reading
Assignments
For all of
the students that I teach reading to nightly homework will be to
read for 30 minutes. The students have the choice of bringing
home their reading books, or reading something they have at home or
their library books.
Helping your child read at home
When helping your child choose a book to read a good way to
determine if the book is on your child's reading level is to use
your fingers. Have your child read any page out loud in the
book. For every word that your child misses hold up one
finger. For most books if you have all five fingers up, the
book is probably too hard for your child right now and needs to
either be read to your child, or put away until your child's skills
improve. If your child is struggling with just trying to read
the words then he/she is does will not be able to comprehend what is
being read. A good reader is one that can not only call words,
but can also make sense of what he/she is reading.
